Maple Leaves were born on a dark and rainy Glasgow night in 2008, in the basement of Nice and Sleazy’s - little did they know that from these dingy beginnings would emerge a band bursting with perfect pop songs and gorgeous harmonies. Performing her first ever open mic slot in Glasgow, Anna Miles (vocals, piano, guitar) wowed the crowd with her striking voice, catching the attention of fellow musician Julian Corrie (vocals, guitar, piano, drums).  The two began to play and write together, discovering a wealth of songs, before performing their first gig as Maple Leaves at Glasgow literary night, Discombobulate. Seeking some respite from his American History PhD, Graeme Thomson (drums, guitar, vocals) joined shortly after, also bringing with him a treasure trove of great songs .

Support slots for Marble Valley, My Latest Novel and Zoey Van Goey followed, and after playing only five shows, Maple Leaves were selected to perform on the T Break stage at T in the Park - a huge achievement. Their summery, three-minute, folk-tinged pop songs – described by one newspaper as ‘a massive aural hug’ - went down a storm, provoking a tent invasion by flag-waving Canadians and a subsequent appearance on BBC One.

Since then Maple Leaves have established themselves as one of Stland’s most exciting new bands, enjoying radio airplay of their debut singles and playing a slew of gigs at high profile venues in their home city and beyond.  Their continued commitment to crafting melodic, literate and creative indie pop makes them stand out among Glasgow’s burgeoning music scene, garnering rave reviews from press and blogs. They have also received attention from Scottish indie icons such as Belle and Sebastian's Stuart Murdoch, who was so impressed with Maple Leaves' first demo he selected Miles to sing on his God Help The Girl album. More recently, the band were chosen by local record label, Chemikal Underground, for a Scottish Arts Council-funded recording session at their studios. The tracks from this session was released as an ep on Bubblegum Records on October 20th, 2010.
